by Lauren SandersEditor-in-Chief

On Fri., April 20, LGHS students participated in a two-hour walkout to protest against gun violence. When interviewed by El Gato News, Junior Felipe Sambugaro, who previously attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, explained his motivation to protest: “My friends are dead…we are here protesting for stricter gun laws and gun control.” Sambugaro then encouraged LGHS students to pre-register to vote at a booth on LGHS campus in order to vote in the upcoming midterms to encourage gun legislation reform. Senior Tommy Gray stated that he protested because “it is important to speak in our democracy for what you believe in.” Junior Maia Buggiano protested because “it is our right as people and as students to protest for what we want…We should be able to go to school without being scared.” Check out the following photos and videos for exclusive coverage of the walkout.
